Questions raised on de-affiliation of colleges from Garhwal University
The decision to shift the affiliations of private and aided colleges from HNB Garhwal University to Sridev Suman Uttarakhand University is meeting resistance from various quarters. On the insistence of the Uttarakhand government the HNB Garhwal University has recently sent letters to the affiliated colleges to shift their affiliation to other universities from academic session 2021-22. It paved the way for affiliations of many colleges under the Sri Dev Suman Uttarakhand University.
Taking strong exception to the development, the BJP leader and former Chairman of Rajya Andolankari Samman Parishad and BJP leader, Ravindra Jugran has said that the decision is not in the interest of students. He said that the Garhwal University is a central university and the degree of a central university is more in comparison to any state university. Jugran demanded that the decision should be reversed considering the student interest failing which the students would be forced to start an agitation.
The president of the self financed institutes of Uttarakhand Sunil Agarwal also raised serious objections to the disaffiliation decision. He said that the Sri Dev Suman University lacks manpower and resources to handle the responsibility. “The SDS Uttarakhand University is plagued by shortage of staff. Most of the appointments are ad hoc and the university is not able to cater existing institutes.’’ he said. Raising a technical point Agarwal added that the colleges affiliated under the HNB Garhwal University were associated with it before the university was made a central university. “The act of Garhwal University mandates that these colleges are its affiliates. In such a situation these colleges cannot be disaffiliated merely on the basis of a letter,’’ he quipped.
