Programme held to mark IDPD,Differently abled children felicitated
The International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD) was observed on Monday by a city-based organization with an awareness programme and felicitation ceremony of the differently abled children being held on the occasion. The gathering also appreciated the students for their talent in singing and dancing which they exhibited on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, advocate Rizwan Ali said, “The Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) was adopted on December 13, 2006, at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.
It can actually improve the condition of people with disabilities.” He further said that the Government shall have to take necessary steps for the enforcement of this Act, use technology in the right direction so as to improve the accessibility of the differently abled people to public places and buildings.
Rizwan said that the Government of Uttarakhand must implement Disability Act -2016 as soon as possible in the state. “It is sad that the disability is still looked upon with pity instead of focus on the rights of citizens with special needs. Priority must be given to bring them to the mainstream.
The public representatives must make society aware of the changing global approach towards these people.
The most important is that the State Government must form a separate department for rights of ‘Divyangs’ and a census must be made for these as Kerala State has initiated.” Read more posts…
