Probe closed after woman constable decides not to pursue case against the senior cop
DGP to decide whether or not to take action against accused
The woman constable who had levelled sexual harassment charge against a senior police officer is learnt to have decided not to pursue the case after the officer apologised. It is learnt that the accused officer tendered a letter of apology in connection with the alleged sexual harassment case. Now, it is for the director general of police (DGP) to decide whether some action is taken against the accused officer or not.
The inspection committee has submitted its report which is supposed to contain all the details, including the call recordings on the woman constable’s personal mobile number. It is also learnt that while picking her up from her house, the accused officer had dropped the driver and a co-passenger at Dudadhari Chowk to make sure he be left alone with the woman constable.
The accused officer is learnt to have said that the woman constable had levelled such charges after her plea of transfer to Dehradun-the city she hails from-had been turned down.
Many questions, however, have remained unanswered as to why the senior police officer used to go to her house and allowed her not to attend office. Though the probe is closed after the complainant withdrew her charge the question as to whether the police department would take some action based on the inspection committee report against the accused officer remains unanswered.
As reported earlier, pressure was allegedly mounted on the complainant’s brother who is also working in the police department.
Notably, a woman constable had alleged that a police officer deputed in a senior position in Haridwar city circle had sexually harassed her. The complaint had been made to then SSP Haridwar Ridhim Agarwal on December 28 last. The very next day, a probe had been initiated.
