The state Congress brass has requested the Congress high command to send Priyanka Gandhi along with the party president Rahul Gandhi for campaigning in the Himalayan State. The party is aiming to cash in on the popularity of Priyanka Gandhi among the masses at the hustings.
It is learnt that many district units of the party have sent request to the party leadership to either organise public meetings or hold road shows of Priyanka.
When contacted, the state Congress chief Pritam Singh admitted the fact.
“It is true that the party wants Priyanka in Uttarakhand during the campaigning,” he said. He further said that Rajasthan chief minister Ashok Gehlot, deputy CM, Sachin Pilot, Jyotiraditya Scindia, Punjab CM Capt Amarinder Singh and cricketer- turned- politician Navjot Singh Siddhu are among the leaders who could come to the state to campaign.
“The central leadership of the party is likely to announce the names of the star campaigners soon,” Singh said.
The PCC president further informed that the Congress would announce the names of the candidates for all the five Lok Sabha seats of the state after the rally of Congress president Rahul Gandhi at Parade Ground on March 16 is over.
The state screening committee has already sent panel of names for all five seats to the central screening committee. On the recommendation of the central screening committee, the Congress Working Committee (CWC) would release the names of the candidates from the state. Meanwhile, the state party has plunged itself headlong into making the rally of Rahul Gandhi a huge success.
The leaders of Dehradun, Haridwar and Tehri districts have been entrusted with the task of bringing in the expected crowd for the rally. Pritam Singh again affirmed that the rally of the Congress president would a historical one.
