‘It will focus on exposing the failure of Centre and TSR government’
Gearing up for the crucial Lok Sabha election a few months away, the Uttarakhand Congress president Pritam Singh is undertaking a
‘Parivartan Yatra’ from January 21. The Yatra would cover all the five Lok Sabha seats up for grab in the state. The Yatra would focus on exposing the failure of the Union government and the Trivendra Singh Rawat government in the state.
Informing about the proposed Yatra, the state Congress vice- president Surya Kant Dhasmana said on Wednesday that when Narendra Modi had come to the state in 2013 he had termed the Rs 7500 crore package for reconstruction of disaster-affected areas as not sufficient. “He, at that time claimed that if BJP government came to power at the Centre more funds would be provided to the state. People readily gulped his assurance and handed over all the five Lok Sabha seats to BJP on a platter. But the fact is that not even a single penny has been given for reconstruction of the disaster-affected areas over the past five years,’’ he said.
The Congress leader further claimed that after constitution of Niti Ayog, the financial help in the form of Special Component Plan and tribal sub- area plan to the state has stopped. He added that the revenue receipts of the state have come down by 39 percent after implementation of GST and many of the centrally financed schemes have stopped.
Dhasmana said that during 2017 Vidhan Sabha election, the people of Uttarakhand had been assured of a double engine government which would waive off farmer loans, ensure all- round development of the state and reduce migration. “People again reposed their faith in Modi and gave a massive mandate to BJP, but over the last two years, the Trivendra Singh Rawat government has disappointed the people of the state. Leave alone loan waiver, more than a dozen farmers have committed suicides under pressure of loan payment from banks. The health services are in a pathetic state with deliveries taking place on floor of the hospitals and worse, on the roads,’’ he said.
Launching a scathing attack on the state government, Dhasmana said that the wheel of development in the state has been derailed and the state high court has to keep ordering the state government on every other issue. He said that the people have made up their minds for a change and the Parivartan Yarta to be led by PCC president would cover all the five Lok Sabha seats of the state to further strengthen the wind of change now blowing .
The chairman of the state party disciplinary committee Pramod Kumar Singh, head of the state party’s minority cell Tahir Ali and the spokespersons Garima Dasauni and Mahesh Joshi were present at the press conference.
