The Gairsain police station of Chamoli district has claimed to have cracked the murder case of a sanyasi by arresting the accused. The accused has been identified as Satish Kumar, a resident of village Shilingee near the Gairsain police station.
Police said that they had acted on information received on Monday morning of the body of an unknown sanyasi found lying in the bushes near the village Shilingee.
The CO Karanprayag Mithilesh Singh and SHO Gairsain Ravindra Negi along with police force had rushed to the spot and inspected the body and the surroundings. During investigation, police had come to learn that the deceased Baba was residing with one Satish Kumar for the past few days. Satish kumar who was addicted to narcotics is living alone in the house as he is unmarried, police said, adding that his disgusted mother Parvati Devi had left the house and was residing in the nearby village Gadoli in a rented house.
Chamoli superintendent of police Tripti Bhatt had constituted a team under CO Karanprayag and SHO Gairsain and directed them to crack the murder case. Police had found that the Baba had died due to injury on the head.
They had searched the house of Satish Kumar and found blood splattered on the floor and the wall with the blood trail leading to the place the body was found. As Satish Kumar had absconded the police team started a man hunt. Finally, he was arrested from the village Gadoli.
During questioning, Satish Kumar is learnt to have admitted the crime. Police said that as per the accused, the Baba whose name was Vishnu Nath came to the village three days ago and Satish brought him to his house.
As altercation erupted between the two Satish hit the Baba on the head with a sharp instrument.
Later, the body was dumped near the Ram Gannga river, police said, adding that the murder weapon had been recovered.
