Three accused arrested, search on for three absconding
With the arrest of three people, Dehradun police on Monday claimed to have cracked the murder case of Sardar Malkit Singh and the rape of a girl at Singh’s home at Madhowala in Doiwala area. Singh was a farmer who was found dead with his throat slit on March 26. The police have arrested three accused including Shubham Singh Chauhan, Ujjwal Sharma and Arjun Chaudhary while three other accused are said to be absconding.
Senior superintendent of police Nivedita Kukreti informed the media that Shubham (23) heard from someone that Malkit Singh recently sold some of his property and as a result, must be having considerable amount of cash in his house. The SSP said, “A man named Pappu who used to visit Singh’s home frequently told Shubham that Singh recently sold some of his property and had about Rs 80 lakh. As Shubham had made some bad investments in the past because of which he was in dire need of money, he went to Singh’s house with Pappu and was impressed by his lifestyle. He then made a plan to rob Singh.”
It is learnt that on the eve of Holi, Shubham met his friend Aman and told him about his plan. Aman then called Ujjwal, Arjun, Lakshya and Mukul to a restaurant in Bhaniyawala.
Giving further details, SSP Kukreti said, “On the night of March 25 at about 10 pm, the men riding on two-wheelers reached Singh’s home. They parked their vehicles in a nearby government school and entered Singh’s home. It was then that they found a girl sleeping in the balcony of the home. Threatening her with a knife and a pistol, they raped her and stole Rs 15,000 cash along with some gold and silver jewellery.”
Explaining the main reason behind the murder, the SSP said, “Singh already knew Shubham, because he used to visit his house with Pappu. To make sure they leave no trail behind Shubham slit his throat and then Ujjwal finished the task.”
The police are still searching for Aman, Lakshya and Mukul.
