Police arrest jeweller who melted gold & silver looted from Easwaran home
The investigation in the armed robbery case at the residence of the West Bengal cricket team captain Abhimanyu Easwaran is revealing more facts about other crimes by the day. The most suspicious among these is the robbery at the residence of a government official from Dehradun Regional Transport Office (RTO). In the same investigation district police have arrested another person involved in the robbery case at Easwaran residence. The accused arrested on Thursday helped the main accused of the robbery by melting the jewellery and selling it in the market.
The accused arrested has been identified as Mohammad Arshad. During the interrogation with the earlier arrested six accused Virendra Singh alias Thakur, Mohammad Adnan, Mujibbur Rehman alias Piru, Furkan, Firoj and Haider, it was revealed that they took help from Arshad to sell the jewellery looted from Easwaran’s residence. Arshad is a relative of Adnan and has a jewellery shop in Titli Bazaar, Delhi.
During interrogation ,Arshad told the police that he has a shop near Jama Mazjid in Titli Bazaar. Few days ago Adnan and Haider told him that they had successfully completed a robbery in Dehradun and had large amount of jewellery that they needed to sell immediately.
As he could not melt such a large amount of jewellery in his shop, he took them to Dareeba where there are more resources to melt gold or silver. He also said that they gave him some money as commission after selling the jewellery.
They had earlier also asked him for similar help after which they used to give some money.
It is pertinent to mention here that two of the accused Haider and Adnan have said that they had earlier in the month of May robbed the home of a government official, where they looted up to Rs 1.38 crore.
The accused also said that in the month of August they also attempted to rob a doctor, but were unable to do so as the dog in his house started barking.
