People calling in MCD’s control room with false complaints
In the disaster control room set by the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) in the Town Hall to register and tackle the waterlogging issues during the monsoon, people have started to call regarding those issues too that do not concern the corporation. According to the operator of the control room, the MCD sends the assistance immediately to any complainant but some people have begun to take advantage of the system. “We received some calls from some people stating they have an issue regarding drain choking or waterlogging but when we reached there with the team of the workers, they asked us to provide gutter cleaning services or asked us to remove water from their tanks. Even when we refused stating that it is not our job, they insisted. We did not do it but such false complaints waste time, labour and fuel of the corporation. Some people have also asked us to take their dead animals from their homes but we generally help them by providing them the proper contact numbers. We help where we can,” stated the operator.
Meanwhile, he added that the complaints regarding waterlogging are less this week than in the last week which is about three to five complaints per day. Moreover, he said that a water withdrawing machine and other necessary equipment were sent to the councillors of those wards which face severe waterlogging due to a heavy rain so that it can be operated in the time of emergencies.
