Operation Smile and Shinakht to continue for two months
Uttarakhand Police Headquarters has resumed their two campaigns, Operation Smile and Operation Shinakht for two months starting from December 1. During the campaign the missing people that are yet to be found from the year 2000 will be searched. Their profile will also be matched from the description of unclaimed bodies in order to rule out the possibility of their death.
As per the date provided by PHQ, total 1561 missing children were rescued in the year 2015 till February 2018, out of which 868 were from Uttarakhand and 693 were from other states. In Operation Shinakht, 68 unidentified bodies were identified and a total of 424 missing people were recognized.
Director General (Law and Order) Ashok Kumar said that five teams have been formed in Dehradun, Udham Singh Nagar, Haridwar and Nainital districts. The remaining districts will have two teams each. Each search team will consist of one Sub Inspector and four constables. One lady officer is mandatory in each team. A legal and technical team has also been formed to assist the search teams.
Immediate action will be taken by filing a case if any crime is found in relation to the rescued and identified children. A workshop was also organized in every district as to provide information about all the legal formalities and provisions related to children.
He further said that it is also necessary to coordinate with departments concerned such as Child Welfare Committee (CWC), social welfare department, Women and child development among others.
It is pertinent to mention here that that the police will be conducting this campaign and searching every possible and probable place where missing children or adults can be found, this includes all the shelter homes, government and private both. Sometimes a child is unable to tell about his family and a shelter home takes him or her under their protection, through this campaign the police teams will be working to make those children meet with their families again.
