Open Gym of Gandhi Park attracting fitness enthusiasts
Similar gyms to come up in all the wards of the city
An increase in number of visitors is being witnessed in the open-air gymnasium built by the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) in Gandhi Park. The open-air gym was inaugurated by the Chief Minister of Uttarakhand Trivendra Singh Rawat recently.
“People who come for morning walks are taking advantage of the facility of gym provided by the MCD in Gandhi Park. Subsequently, the number of people who visit the Gandhi Park is increasing,,” said deputy municipal commissioner Rohitash Sharma.
“The attraction of the open-air gym is going beyond the routine visitors of the park. Now occasional visitors and daily commuters from different demographies have started using the gym facility. The by passers at least once try their hands on the installed machine,” he added.
The gym started inducing positive response even before it was inaugurated. According to the deputy commissioner, now it has started to receive even better response than earlier.
“The chief minister said that it will help spread awareness amongst people about their physical and mental health and I believe it is actually helping in the same,” he said.
“The gym is benefiting people from all walks of life from children to senior citizens,” he added.
Sharma informed that one of the head of health department too posted pictures of the gym on social media. He also posted the benefits of the open- air gym. He said that it’s a victory for MCD if along with public a health department official is also supporting the idea of it.
The chief minister while inaugurating the gym said that these gyms will be built in all the municipal wards in Dehradun. In this context Sharma informed that the Mayor Sunil Uniyal Gama has also made a decision that open-air gyms will be facilitated in all the 100 wards of MCD.
“Along with gym facility the MCD is also working on providing medical facilities especially for senior citizens which will be free of cost. The facilities will include blood and sugar tests and it will be provided once a week in Gandhi Park,” he informed.
