MCD opens first open air gym in Gandhi Park
Open air gymnasiums will be built in all the municipal wards in Dehradun. The chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat said this after inaugurating an open-air gym built by the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) in Gandhi Park here on Monday.
The chief minister said that this open air gym will help spread awareness among people about health and fitness. He said that there is a shortage of open fields and parks in Dehradun. He also mentioned the idea of zero zone once a week in which no vehicle should be allowed for four hours from Clock tower to Gandhi park, adding that this should also be considered. During these hours people especially children and youngsters must visit the park. Social and cultural events shall be organised and people must get an opportunity to showcase their talent. He said this will help create a positive environment in the city.
Rawat further said that this gym will be beneficial for youngsters, children and people who come for walks in Gandhi Park. He informed that trainers will be appointed for helping the public achieve their goals.
The CM also directed the MCD to facilitate rain water harvesting in Gandhi Park. He said the water requirement of Gandhi Park will be met from the harvested rainwater.
Mayor Sunil Uniyal ‘Gama’ talked about MCD’s efforts in making Dehradun an even better place to live in. He said that Dehradun will soon be recognised not just in India but also abroad.
He said that even small things are being taken care of to make city better and beautiful. Gama further informed about drains being cleaned before the advent of rain this time. He said it helped people as there were fewer complaints about water entering the houses.
While conducting the event, municipal commissioner Vinay Shankar Pandey informed that efforts are being made to provide medical facilities like sugar test, blood test absolutely-free once a week for the elderly who visit Gandhi park in the morning.
