Open Air Gym gets positive response before inauguration
The Municipal Corporation of Dehradun’s (MCD) open air gym project in Gandhi Park is eliciting positive response among daily visitors to the park even before its inauguration. The installation of gym is almost done and people, who visit the park daily, have already started availing the facility.
“It is a good initiative and we are very happy about it. People have already started using it before the inauguration on trial basis,” said Mahesh Joshi, a daily visitor to the park. “For everyone to fully avail the facility, timing should be specified for each user per machine. Someone should be deployed specifically to keep a check on this,” he added. According to Joshi, if the MCD hires someone for this job, maintenance will not be an issue.
20-year-old Aman Arora, an armed forces aspirant too expressed his happiness about the open gym. Aspiring for strength and stamina, high gym fees is a deterrent for him. “Now the MCD has made it easier for people like us to achieve our fitness goals by setting up an open gym in Gandhi Park-absolutely free,” he said.
“My workout is currently limited to jogging and walking. I wanted to add strength training to my fitness regime. Hence, this a great move,” said student Preeti Rawat.
“MCD has started this initiative under Public Private Partnership (PPP) mode. Though the work is still under progress, not much time is left for its completion,” said deputy municipal commissioner Rohitash Sharma.
“A large chunk of people visit Gandhi Park for morning and evening walks. It is an initiative to cater especially to those people who can’t afford high gym fees charged by private ventures,” he said.
“For the maintenance of the gym and to gather data as to how many people are availing the facility, we are planning to start a membership system. All the members will be free to enjoy the benefits. It will be an achievement for the MCD if more and more people use the gym,” he added.
