In two separate road accidents in Rudraprayag and Chamoli districts on Tuesday, one 21-year old boy was killed and four were seriously injured. The injured have been referred to Srinagar. The deceased has been identified as Amit Singh, he was coming back from an army recruitment camp in Kotdwar.
Sub Inspector Vijay Pratap Rahi from Rudraprayag police station said, “The jeep was coming from Kotdwar to Chopta in Rudraprayag when the accident happened at Naugaon on Badrinath highway near Samrat resort. There were eight passengers and one driver in the vehicle. The boys are of age 18 to 21. The driver Keshar Singh is in a critical condition and was referred to Srinagar.”
When asked about the cause of accident he said, “Prima facie it appears that the driver might have dozed off, according to what the passengers told us. The investigation is ongoing.”
In another accident at Karnprayag in Chamoli a bus carrying 28 passengers from Punjab, Patna and Bihar broke through the railing and fell off a bridge.
Chamoli Superintendent of Police, Yashwant Singh Chauhan said, “The bus was coming from Haridwar to Badrinath shrine. Prima facie it appears that either the driver dozed off or his steering got stuck, because he could not negotiate across the bridge properly. That place has no other reason for an accident. ”
