In order to increase the revenue generated by the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD), mayor Sunil Uniyal ‘Gama’ stated that more focus will be laid on the ways which can help in increasing the income of the MCD. The corporation is planning to use its lands especially in the 40 recently added wards for commercial purposes to increase its revenue.
It is pertinent to mention that even after the completion of one year of 40 wards being added to the existing 60 municipal wards, officials have very little information about the lands belonging to the MCD in the new wards.
In the recently conducted board meeting, many councillors raised the issue of lands especially in the new wards being encroached by people with the officials having little knowledge about it.
Speaking on this issue, the mayor said, “It is important that the income of the MCD increases for which a proposal has also been passed in the board meeting for using the land of MCD for commercial purposes. Firstly we have decided to identify the areas which belong to the MCD especially in the 40 new wards. Further, we are planning to construct shops and commercial complexes and also to give the land in Public-Private Partnership (PPP) mode. This will surely help us to boost the income of the MCD.”
