Officials claim Swachh Survekshan not conducted properly
MCD to act after low ranking in national sanitation survey
Officials of the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) stated that the survey by the Swachh Survekshan team was not conducted properly due to which the city was ranked 384th out of 425 cities. Officials further said that steps will be taken to know the exact numbers achieved by the MCD under various categories.
Talking to the media on Thursday, Dehradun mayor Sunil Uniyal ‘Gama’ said, “Our city has achieved low rank in the Swachh Survekshan Survey 2019 report even though all our officials are focusing majorly on sanitation. Keeping our city clean is one of our main priorities and every possible step will be taken by us to achieve this.”
Adding further to this he said, “I think that the main reason for the low ranking in the survey is the shortage of sanitation staff which we have been facing for a long time now. We are trying from our level to appoint more sanitation workers as soon as possible. Also, we are conducting a meeting with our officers for ensuring that our current system of sanitation can become better for the city.”
Municipal commissioner Vinay Shankar Pandey said, “I think the survey done has some major loopholes due to which we scored such a low rank.”
The MCD chief health officer Dr Kailash Joshi said, “In my opinion, I believe that our files were not checked properly. Also, the Shishambada waste management plant was not taken into account. We do lack in giving 100 per cent services in the city but more than 60 per cent work is being done properly. We will try our best to review our points again so that the actual result can come out.”
