In protest against the fee hike affected by the HNB Garhwal University, the National Students Union of India (NSUI) the student wing of the Congress party organised protest march on Friday. In the march the students of the DAV- PG College, DBS College, MKP College and SGRR colleges participated. On the day, the NSUI activists assembled at the state headquarters of the Congress party and from there marched to the Astley hall. Here they burned a combined effigy of Union Human Resource Development Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank, State minister Dhan Singh Rawat and Vice Chancellor (VC) of HNB Garhwal University.
The state president of the NSUI, Mohan Bhandari said that the University is charging excess fees from the semi government colleges of the state. He accused the Uttarakhand government for adopting partisan attitude towards the students of the state. The students are also agitated over hike in examination fee of the university. The university has recently affected a hike of Rs 1300 in the examination fee for the first semester students. After the hike, the students who earlier were paying a fee of Rs 850 would now have to submit Rs 2150 as examination fees.
