Historic religious-cultural event to begin today & conclude on August 28
The 118th historic Nanda Devi Mahotsav will begin on Sunday and conclude on August 28. However, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, no public programmes will be held as part of this religious and cultural fair this year. The inauguration, city procession of the plantain stems used to make idols of the goddesses, public feasts and city procession of the goddesses will not be held this year. The organising body, Sri Ram Sevak Sabha’s head Manoj Sah and general secretary Jagdish Bawadi have requested the people to worship goddesses Nanda- Sunanda at their homes. The darshan of the goddesses will be telecast live by local television channels. The sub divisional magistrate Vinod Kumar talked of facilitating live broadcast on Facebook. The district magistrate has given Rs two lakh to the municipality, he added. According to the schedule finalised, a group of devotees will depart on the evening of August 23 to get the plantain stem. These will arrive in the Naina Devi temple in the afternoon next day. The making of the idols of the goddesses from the plantain stems will begin on the morning of August 25. The Pran Pratishtha ritual will be held in the morning of August 26 on the occasion of Nandashtami. Various other rituals will be held later in the day till past midnight. Similarly, various rituals will be held from the morning till midnight on the next day and after ritual worship on August 28, the idols will be submersed in the afternoon.
On Saturday, officials of the district administration checked arrangements at the temple for the event along with office bearers of the organising body. It was stated that the gate of the shrine will remain closed during the event and social distancing will also be observed. The members of the organising committee said that about 20 volunteers of Sri Ram Sevak Sabha will be issued passes.
