No laxity on TB patient notification -Mission director
Expresses concern on slow progress of National TB control programme in some districts of the state.
The Mission Director of National Health Mission (NHM) Yugal Kishore Pant has expressed concern on slow progress of National TB control programme in some districts of the state. The Mission Director reviewed the progress of implementation of the programme on Tuesday. In the meeting he found that the task of notification of the TB patients is less than 50 percent in all the districts of state barring Udham Singh Nagar, Haridwar, Dehradun and Chamoli districts. Tehri, Chamoli and Bageshwar with 23, 28 and 35 percent notification respectively are at bottom of the programme. It is pertinent to mention here that before starting treatment of TB it is essential for the doctors to notify the patient. To promote notification of such patients, the government provides a sum of Rs 1000 per patient to the private doctor who notifies the patient.
Expressing anguish, on low notification of TB patients despite the provision of reward, Pant said that leaving the treatment of TB patient is a social crime. He directed all TB control officers to register the data of TB notification done by the private hospitals and doctors. Pant also warned that laxity in notification and treatment of TB patients would not be tolerated.
The Director NHM, Dr Anjali Nautiyal said that Uttarakhand is at 12thposition among 36 states in implementation of TB control programme. She said that the percentage of treatment of TB patients is 51 in Uttarakhand which is higher than national average of 41 percent. Dr Nautiyal said that 35873 patients out of total registered 38867 TB patients are provided a sum of Rs 500 per month as encouragement. On a stern note she said that district TB officer concerned would be held responsible if any patient is his district is deprived of complete treatment.
It is pertinent to mention here that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has taken a target of making the country free from TB before year 2024 and his office is directly monitoring the progress of the programme.
