New GDMC principal inspects hospital to take stock of situation
The newly appointed principal of Government Doon Medical College (GDMC) Dr Ashutosh Sayana appeared on an active mode soon after assuming charge. He inspected the GDMC Hospital on Saturday. In an important decision, the principal said that all the administrative and financial powers would be given to the medical superintendent (MS) of the hospital Dr K K Tamta.
He further said that by providing these powers, the hospital administration would be able to take prompt action. It is worth mentioning here that the MS Dr Tamta has been consistent in his demand that he should be provided with more financial and administrative powers so that he is able to take effective decisions.
The principal inspected both the male and female wings of the hospital on the day. He said that the number of beds in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the biggest Government hospital of the State would be increased as per the parameters of the Medical Council of India (MCI). The principal, along with MS Dr Tamta, visited the emergency ward, Operation Theatre (OT) and Swine Flu ward of the hospital too. He directed shifting of the vaccination room to the female wing of the hospital so that the female patients do not face problem in coming for vaccination.
With an objective of providing more space for the patients, the principal ordered that offices and demo rooms located on the ground floor should be shifted to some other place.
He said that proposals to repair or replace old equipment in the radiology and other departments should be sent to him.
The principal, himself an eminent surgeon, operated a female patient suffering from gall bladder stone when he removed it with the help of laparoscopic equipment. He said that he would now regularly see patients in the hospital.
