It is pertinent to mention here that capitalising on the states natural beauty and culture, the state government has been making efforts to develop Uttarakhand into one of the major destinations for film shootings in the country. The state has a considerable number of destinations unique for their natural beauty which are ideal for film makers. The snow clad Himalaya, Ganga, Yamuna and other rivers originating from the Himalaya along with dense forests of deodar, pine and other trees create a unique environment in the state. From wildlife rich areas to ancient heritage and revered shrines, the state has many aspects which are suitable for film makers. In order to attract film makers from across the nation and abroad, the state government has simplified its film shooting policy through the single window system. Incentives are being provided to films produced and screened in the state, rebate is being provided in entertainment tax and grants are also being provided in addition to 50 per cent discount in tourist rest houses of the Garhwal Mandal Vikas Nigam and Kumaon Mandal Vikas Nigam. As a result of these measures, a number of regional, mainstream Hindi cinema and other movies have been shot in the state so far.
