Institute to provide training in water sports
For the conduct of various water sports at the Rajiv Gandhi Adventure Academy, Tehri, a memorandum of understanding was signed between the state and Government of India recognized institution National Institute of Water Sports (NIWS) here on Monday. As per the MoU, trained instructors from NIWS will provide training in the academy from the next session on water skiing, jet skiing, parasailing, windsurfing, life-saving techniques, scuba diving and motor boat engine repairing along with water rescue operation related skills.
Informing about this, the State’s tourism secretary Dilip Jawalkar said that this was an important steps towards developing Tehri into an ideal destination for water sports. He said that the local youth will be provided training at the adventure academy in Tehri in water skiing, remote control power boat handling, windsurfing and other such adventure sports activities. This will also boost the employment generation for locals. With this, the facilitation of tourism and adventure sports activities in Tehri will also receive a major boost. The tourism secretary further informed that courses will also be conducted in the academy for water sports trainers so that they can impart training in the future.
According to officials, the NIWS is a leading institution providing training in water sports. It conducts various curriculums in water sports along with providing training in life-saving techniques. The institute also provides training for river guides, trainers, lifeguards, and other related vocations. Officials state that work according to the MoU would be an important development in facilitating capacity and skill development among the state’s youth through training by experts.
As per the conditions in the MoU, the NIWS will provide trainers, faculty and training staff for conducting different curriculums. During the training period, selected candidates will be provided both written and practical training at the academy by the institute.
