Monsoon session Social distancing norms to be followed: Speaker
The Uttarakhand assembly speaker Premchand Agarwal has said that many options are being weighed for holding the upcoming monsoon session of assembly while adhering to social distancing norms for the ongoing pandemic of Covid-19. Replying to the query of the media persons on Thursday, the speaker accepted that holding a session amid the pandemic would be a challenge. He added that the hall of the assembly building has limited space and would not be able to accommodate the members when a sitting plan conforming to social distancing norms is followed. Agarwal said that discussions on every small point are going on and a final decision would be soon taken. Throwing a hint that the space of galleries reserved for media persons and visitors could be used for seating the members, Agarwal said that some people might feel offended. He however appealed to everyone to cooperate for the successful holding of the session.
The monsoon session of Uttarakhand assembly is scheduled for September 23, 24 and 25 in Dehradun. Considering the limited capacity of the assembly hall it is believed that the session could be organised in a tent placed in the assembly premises or can be held at some other place like a hotel or big government building in Dehradun.
