135-km high-speed Kundli-Manesar-Palwal Expressway will now have 6 lanes instead of 4 planned earlier
The Kundli-Manesar segment of the Kundli-Manesar-Palwal (KMP) Expressway will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on November 19 from Gurugram’s Sultanpur village. The Manesar-Palwal section was inaugurated by Union Minister Nitin Gadkari last year. The Expressway was projected to be completed by 2009 but missed several deadlines.
Haryana PWD Minister Rao Narbir told a Press conference on Tuesday that Modi will come to inaugurate the KMP Expressway, also known as Western Peripheral Expressway. Along with KMP, the PM will also lay the foundation stone of the two phases of Dwarka Expressway and some 10 to 12 other projects when he visits the city.
“The project is 98 per cent complete and only minor issues such as cleaning up and putting up of boards are left, which will be completed soon. Everything else has been completed. It was supposed to be completed by 2009 but missed several deadlines due to financial disputes and some land hurdles,” Rao said. The 135-km high-speed expressway will now have six lanes instead of the four planned earlier.
“On the completion of KMP Expressway, the vehicles going from northern India to western and southern parts of the country would be able to pass through without entering into Delhi. The expressway will also reduce the commuting time from Delhi to the towns of Kundli, Manesar and Palwal considerably,” Rao said.
The 53-km stretch between Manesar and Palwal on the expressway became operational for commuters in 2015. The 135-km stretch passes through Gurugram, Palwal, Nuh and Sonipat districts in Haryana.
The total cost of the project is Rs 1,863 cr. The super expressway passes through National Highway Number-1 in Sonipat, NH-10 in Jhajjar, NH-48 in Gurugram and NH-2 in Palwal districts. The expressway has eight small and six large bridges, four railway overbridges and 34 underpasses and 64 pedestrian crossings. The total length of the super expressway is 135 km, of which the Manesar-Palwal stretch was inaugurated by Union Minister Nitin Gadkari last year.Apart from the event in Kundli (Sonipat), inaugural programmes will be held at all six toll plazas on the expressway.
“Ten industrial clusters would be given on an area of two kilometers each on both sides of the super expressway so that KMP could become a carrier of economic progress of the State,” the PWD Minister, said.
Speaking on the shifting of Kherki Daula toll plaza, the Minister said that the toll plaza will be removed from its present site and relocated to village Panchagoan in March 2019. This is being done to provide seamless connectivity to the KMP, he added. read more posts…
