Mobile battery recovered from elderly person going to meet his son in district jail
Roshanabad district jail has shot into the news again. It has been infamous for mobile being used by the prisoners. On Tuesday, the prison authorities caught an elderly man who was found taking a mobile battery inside the prison premises. At the time of checking at the entry gate of the prison, the mobile battery was recovered from the elderly man who was going to meet his son lodged there. When questioned, he said that he had taken it inside the prison premises mistakenly.
Mobiles, being recovered from the prisoners in the district jail, are frequent. In 2018, over six mobiles had been recovered from the prisoners. It was then learnt that not just the gangsters lodged in the jail but the members of such gangs also were using the mobile phones inside the prison premises with impunity.
During the time of the meeting of relatives with the prisoners on Tuesday, the security personnel found an elderly man carrying a mobile battery in his pocket when he was going in. When quizzed, the elderly man said that it was a mistake on his part.
According to the jail sources, the person said that he would not have taken the mobile battery inside if he had any bad intention. He was let off after he was warned by the deputy jailer Prem Singh Chauhan.
Observers say that the matter should have been seen as a part of a string of incidents of even the hardened criminals lodged in the high-security district jail being found using mobile phones despite the presence of the prison guards. “Haridwar jail, known to lodge notorious criminals, the jail authorities should be more on their guard.
There are reasons to believe that the practice of the gangsters communicating with their gang members over mobile is still continuing in the jail,” says an observer.
