Mobile app lexicon of three regional languages launched

Chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat released a mobile phone application ‘Akhar’- lexicon of three of Uttarakhand’s languages- Garhwali, Kumaoni and Jaunsari here on Wednesday. The mobile app has been prepared by colonel (retd) DP Dimri and his associates.

Speaking on the occasion, Rawat said that the app was a commendable effort towards increasing the interest of the people in regional languages and dialects. He stressed on the need for consistent efforts to conserve the State’s languages, dialects and culture. The languages and culture of any area depict the uniqueness of that region, he added.

DP Dimri said that the app was an attempt made for the benefit of youths interested in learning the regional languages and those interested in these languages. Many detailed lexicons of Uttarakhand’s regional languages are available but it is difficult to find these swiftly when needed. Hence, an attempt has been made to provide a digital lexicon in a smaller form. Dimri further added that his team members Arun Lakheda, Puran Kandpal, Nutan Pokhriyal, Urmila Singh and Rekha Dimri had helped in preparing this lexicon.
