Min expresses concern over manner in which natural resources are utilised
Expressing concern at manner of utilisation of natural resources, the state finance and parliamentary affairs minister Prakash Pant underlined the facts which have surfaced in the recent Economic Survey. He was speaking at the inauguration of Saksham (Sanrakshan Kshamata Mahotsav) -2018 at CSIR-Indian Institute of Petroleum here on Friday.
Citing the Economic Survey, Pant said that while the utilisation of natural resources is safe up to a maximum of seven per cent, it had touched 7.6 per cent in 2016-17. He questioned the irresponsible use of natural resources by the higher-income section of society, while at the same time, the lower income section of society uses the resources with restrictions. He said that while resources like coal are being used beyond limits, only two per cent of potential hydro energy is being used. He stressed on the responsibility of all to utilise natural resources in a disciplined manner and with a spirit of collective responsibility. He said that disposal of solid waste should also be dealt with similarly through scientific research.
Earlier, the institute director Anjan Ray spoke on problem of carbon footprint consequent to the excessive use of petro-products and also expressed concern over the climatic changes as a result of this.
