While the people were engaged in speculating animatedly over the outcome of the civic polls held on Sunday some people gathered at a place at Jakhan on Monday evening to discuss Becoming by the former First Lady of America, Michelle Obama.
The book is her memoir, a story of her journey from a small town of Chicago to becoming the first African American First Lady.
It is about her growing in a black neighborhood, her marriage, and life in the White House. Lead discussant for the evening was senior civil servant Ashish Joshi. The co-founder, The Booknerds, Rohan Raj talked about the book and the role played by Michelle Obama in the United States scenario and also about the country’s transition from the Obama era to the Trump era. Joshi talked about Michelle’s inspiring story. While reading from the book, he dwelt on various aspects of her life as detailed in the book.
Further, he talked about how unprecedented and unique she was as the First Lady and also why. Rohan mentioned how the former First Lady blasted President Donald Trump in her new book, writing how she reacted in shock the night she learned he would replace her husband in the Oval Office and tried to ‘block it all out.’
She also denounces Trump’s campaign questioning her husband’s citizenship and dubs it as bigoted and dangerous, “deliberately meant to stir up the wingnuts and kooks.”
The discussion ended with a question and answer session organized by The Booknerds named The Political Standoff.
The next event is going to be the book launch Ek Samay Ki Baat Hai by Hema Pandey aka Hansa on December 6, the organizers said. read more posts…
