The mercury has dipped to 2 degrees Celsius in Dehradun while in a number of towns based in Uttarakhand, the same is running in the sub-zero now.
The cold wave condition now sweeping across Uttarakhand, the regional meteorological department has forecast dense to moderate fog enveloping a large swathe of the plains of the state, particularly in the Haridwar and Udham Singh Nagar districts, in the morning hours on two days from Saturday.
The climate would be generally dry on Saturday while the sky would be partly cloudy for the most part of the day, as per the forecast issued by the regional Met centre on Friday.
Meanwhile, the cold is turning more and more biting nearly every passing day in Dehradun and elsewhere in the state.
The mercury dropped to 2.8 degree Celsius in the city on Friday, making it the coldest day here in this season. However, there is a likelihood of a little relief from the severe winter chill on Saturday as the minimum temperature might go up a little to settle in the neighborhood of 4 degree Celsius.
The people living in the city are now being found gathering around fire to beat the winter chill after the evening descends.
The shops and the markets are also being shuttered a little after the evening as the customers are scarce. The roads are looking deserted after the night falls.
The mercury in Dehradun plummeted at least by a notch on settling at 2.8 degree Celsius- three degrees below the normal- while the maximum hovered around 20.7 degree Celsius.
In other places of the state, the maximum and minimum temperatures were recorded at 19.2 degree Celsius and -0.2 degree Celsius respectively in Pantnagar on Friday while at Mukteshwar, the maximum and minimum temperatures were recorded at 11.6 degree Celsius and -4.5 degree Celsius.
In New Tehri, the maximum and minimum temperatures recorded were 12.6 degree Celsius and -1.2 degree Celsius respectively on the day. Read more posts…
