A two member team of the Medical Council of India ( MCI) visited the Government Doon Medical College ( GDMC) on Monday. On the report submitted by the team the medical health and family welfare department would issue a Letter of Permission ( LoP) for admission to the fourth batch of the MBBS students to the college.
On the day the members of the team inspected the GDMC hospital and academic block of the College (GDMC). The MCI team inspected the services and facilities in the hospital and took note of the things.
The team consisted of Professor of Anatomy from a medical college of Karnataka, Dr Sandeep S Deshmukh and Professor, Ophthalmology, Chennai Medical college, Dr Thangerani Raajseharah .
The duo visited the Wards, Operation Theatres (OT), registration counter, billing section, radiology facilities, pathology laboratory and blood bank of the hospital. The members of the MCI objected to the absence of the CT scan machine in the department of radiology. When the hospital authorities told them that the process of purchase of new machine has started the MCI members said that the machine should be installed without delay.
The Principal of GDMC, Dr Ashutosh Sayana, Medical Superintendent (MS) of the hospital Dr K K Tamta, Deputy Superintendent Dr J S Rana and other senior doctors of the hospital accompanied the team.
After visiting the hospital the team inspected facilities at the medical college. The lecture theatres, library and hostels were also inspected by the team.
The visiting team of the MCI also had a head count of the faculty members of the medical college.
The Principal of the GDMC, Dr Ashutosh Sayana claimed that the inspecting MCI team appeared satisfied by the facilities and services. He informed that the MCI team did head count of the members of the faculty.
The apex body of medical education had granted the LOP to the GDMC on June 08 2016 based on which admission to 150 students was given in the I year MBBS course. Later the renewals of LOP were granted to the college based on which the admissions to II and III batch were given in the college.
