As the effects of the drive against unauthorised roadside vendors started on Tuesday are limited, the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) has decided to announce such drives two days before such vendors are evicted or penalised.
According to the officials, the aim of the prior announcement is to make the local vendors aware of the rules so that they can save their goods or else MCD would seize the goods of unauthorised vendors from Friday onwards.
The drive against the unauthorised roadside vendors was started by the MCD on Tuesday in the presence of the mayor Sunil Uniyal ‘Gama’ and municipal commissioner Vinay Shankar Pandey aside from 25 police personnel and municipal staffers.
However, soon after the official team left, the vendors set their stalls again on the roadsides.
Quizzed over the matter, municipal commissioner Vinay Shankar Pandey said, “We know that as soon as we reached our offices the vendors were back on the road. This time, we would go for prior announcement, two days before the drive is launched. Thereafter, all the non-registered vendors would be evicted from Friday onwards.”
Providing more details, he said, “After two days of issuing warning, MCD would seize all the goods of the non-registered vendors. Besides, fines would be collected from them. For the task, we have formed a team consisting of two officers who would be regularly checking the vendors in the market. The checking would be done once in the morning and then again in the evening.”
When asked about the removal of the marked encroachment as per High Court orders in the city and what MCD is doing about it, he said, “The team was formed by the Mussoorie Dehradun Development Authority (MDDA) and we were part of the team. If we are asked to form the team again we would definitely do it.” Read More
