In order to collect property tax early and to encourage taxpayers, the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) has once again come with a scheme of providing 24 per cent rebate to the taxpayers in the initial months of financial year 2019-20. As per the officials, the scheme has been started to avoid the rush and resulting chaos in the concluding months of the financial year.
The official in charge of property tax collection in the MCD said, “The same scheme was started by the MCD last year which we have started again this year. The taxpayer will be given a 24 per cent rebate in clearing their dues. The scheme is to remain open for the starting months of this financial year. This is basically being done to avoid the rush in the concluding months which is good for us and for the taxpayers as well.”
Talking about the online tax payment service the official said, “The service is to start soon as it was delayed due to some technical issues. However, we are in regular touch with the bank and the service is likely to start this week.
MCD to get GIS data of houses in 60 wards
The Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) currently does not have precise data about those who are liable to pay property tax in the city.
This problem may soon be resolved as the Urban Development Directorate (UDD) is likely to help MCD to get proper data on this through Geographical Information System (GIS).
It is pertinent to mention that the MCD has no proper record of the actual property tax payers in the city.
The data uploaded on the website are of those taxpayers who started to pay and are paying regular taxes to the MCD.
However, there are still some property owners who do not pay property tax.
As per the official sources, the MCD was in talks with the UDD and recently got the approval.
“We talked to the Indian Institute of Technology, (IIT) Roorkee for collecting the data of the households however it failed. We also held talks with the UDD and they have agreed to help us in generating the data of the households in 60 wards by using GIS technology. This will be very helpful for us as it will provide accurate data and will save manpower,’’ said the municipal official in charge.
