MCD to clean, repair 17 big, small drains before monsoon
As part of pre-monsoon preparation, the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) has marked 17 big and small drains in the city. These drains will be cleaned and repaired before the advent of monsoon to avoid water logging in the city.
According to the officials the Rs 50 lakh tender for the task has been approved by the authorities.
The Dehradun municipal commissioner Vinay Shankar Pandey said, “Nearly 17 big and small drains have been identified in the city.
The tender was sent for approval after the second board meeting which was approved. The work however, is yet to start. Some formalities are being cleared after which the required work will be started soon and completed before the advent of the monsoon.”
Drains ranging from 200 metre length to 1000 metre are included in the list.
The drains included in the list include the one in Araghar, Chukkhuwala, Neelkanth Vihar, Shastrinagar, Indreshnagar, Nehru Colony, Patelnagar, Kishan Nagar Chowk, Govindgarh Chowk Bindal, Chandan Nagar, Jakhan and other areas.
Explaining more about it chief municipal health officer Dr Kailash Joshi said, “In order to fix these drains before monsoon the tender was passed for cleaning these big and small drains in the city.
The tender is of Rs 50 lakh which includes work for both cleaning and repairing of these drains.
We have spotted 17 such drains which will be cleaned and repaired before the arrival of monsoon so that people face less waterlogging problems in the city.”
It is pertinent to mention here that clogged drains in the city are a major cause of water logging experienced in various localities during the rains.
