The Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) is planning to charge parking fees from the vehicles parked on its premises. MCD took no charges from any vehicles before, however, the increasing number of vehicles parked in the area have created many troubles for the MCD staff. Keeping this in view the officials have decided to take parking fees from the people parking their vehicles in the MCD compound.
When asked about it, a municipal official said, “Sometime ago a Jataytu (vacuum garbage cleaning machine) got stuck in our parking. There were cars parked randomly in the area and we had no clue about the owners. For almost two hours the machine was standing in the area and we couldn’t take it out. Such random parking has created inconvenience for us. Considering this we have decided to keep the parking fee according to the size of the vehicle. The amount, however, hasn’t been decided yet.”
Adding further, the official said, “We will create a system in which the person who has some work in the MCD is likely to pay no parking fee.”
Municipal commissioner Vinay Shankar Pandey said, “MCD parking isn’t a free parking area so we have decided to set the parking fee. This will also generate revenue for the MCD.”
