MCD sanitises public places, containment zones and quarantine centres
The Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) continued its sanitisation drive to sterilise all the public areas during the Covid-19 pandemic on this Sunday too. Since all barring a few commercial activities are being allowed by the authorities, the corporation is consistently disinfecting public areas like Paltan Bazaar and Tehsil area among others every Sunday. At times, MCD sprays disinfectant during week days too but it is done thoroughly on Sunday. As informed earlier by Dehradun mayor Sunil Uniyal ‘Gama’ the disinfectant is sprayed in public places on Sunday due to the negligible number of people present in these places as no commercial activities are allowed that day. Informing further about this, senior municipal health officer Dr RK Singh said that MCD sanitised public places, all the quarantine centres and the containment zones as per the recent directions of the district administration.
On being asked about what challenges the fifth extended lockdown might pose for the municipal corporation as it will provide more relaxations to locals, Singh said that MCD is working diligently since the first lockdown and increase in relaxations will probably not make much difference in its work preparations. It is pertinent to mention that during the complete lockdown till April, MCD had the responsibility to sanitise all the wards but since the government allowed commercial activities in city, the corporation passed this duty on to the councillors of the wards. The councillors are now meant to ensure sanitisation in their respective wards.
