The Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) has collected a total amount of Rs 17 crore by way of commercial and house tax from the city so far. The civic body officers claimed that given the pace of the collection, the target set to them would be achieved by March.
It is learnt that the target is Rs 25 crore, a figure which is still a distant one for the civic body. However, the MCD officers have exuded confidence that the target would be achieved. They said that a large amount of commercial tax is yet to be collected from many commercial property holders. Once they are collected the target would be achieved before March or would be within reach, they added.
Speaking of the matter, the officer in –charge of the civic body said that the amount which has been collected from both the commercial and house tax payers is good enough. “We have so far collected Rs 17 crore. Besides, we are conducting house tax collection camps in various wards and in course of the camps, we are receiving an amount of Rs one to two lakh daily. There is little doubt that the target would be met in time,” he said.
Queried about the tax to be collected from the private schools and the reservation expressed by some of them over the schools being made to pay commercial tax, he said that they were engaged in preparing a list of the schools from which the tax would be collected. “We are making a list of the private schools as per order and the commercial tax would be collected from these institutes. We have not received any complaint from any of the schools so far. However, the order of collecting commercial tax from them would be executed,” he added.
Mobile Application to be launched for taxpayers in 2 months
In order to ease the tax collection process for the taxpayers based in the city, Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) is going to launch a mobile application for tax payment. The work is under process, the civic body officers said and added that the process would be completed by April.

The work on updating the data is under process and we hope that the application would be launched in April.
