Mati Abhiyan calls upon MLAs to help poor girls in education
Known for its initiatives to promote tree plantation and Beti Bachao Beti Padhao, Mati Abhiyan has appealed to the MLAs to help in providing education to the girls from deprived background. In a request meant for the 70 MLAs of the state, the members of the organisation said that the lawmakers should come forward to promote the education of the girls for whom it remains out of bounds because of poverty. On the occasion, a booklet ‘Lok Shakti Virkshaaropan’ was released.
The founder of Mati Abhiyan Kalyan Singh Rawat said, “The initiative taken by us on the mission of reaching education to the girls from the deprived background has taken a year to get into a shape. We selected one inter college each from the 70 Assembly constituencies spread over Uttarakhand. From each school, two girls from deprived backgrounds who showed signs of shining if given education were selected. We are appealing to the lawmakers from 70 Assembly constituencies to take care of the education of these girls so as to help them have a bright future.”
There are around 140 girls chosen for the programme, he said and added that 140 trees have been planted by these girls in their areas in one year.
Rawat further added, “The initiative was taken with an objective to boost Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Andolan. There was another objective- to boost tree plantation through them. If the girls receive some help from the MLAs there is no reason why they would not have a bright future ahead of them. Majority of them aspire to be either doctors or teachers or officers. A little help would take them far,” he said.
Member of Mati Abhiyan Om Prakash Rana said, “The initiative taken by us not just helps conservation of the Himalayas and river Ganga through tree plantation but it also is meant to educate the girls from a deprived background. On both counts, it is successful.”
Another member from Mati Abhiyan, Shailendra Negi said, “This initiative is not just meant to ensure tree plantation but it also is meant to give protection to the sapling thus planted. If our state follows the lead it would give the lead to other states.”
