Was missing since January from Gulmarg in Jammu and Kashmir, body found on August 15
The mortal remains of Havildar Rajendra Singh Negi were cremated with state and military honours in Haridwar on Thursday. Large number of people attended the funeral of the martyr at Khadkhadi Ghat in Haridwar. Negi was missing since January 8 from Gulmarg in Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir. More than eight months after he was reported missing, the body of Negi was found on August 15. His mortal remains were taken to his home in Ambiwala area of Dehradun on Wednesday night by an army vehicle from the Jolly grant airport.
On Thursday morning a large number of people congregated at Ambiwala where the mortal remains of the martyr were kept. The chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat visited the residence of Negi where he laid a floral wreath on the cask in which the body of the martyr was kept. The CM met the grieving family members of Havildar Negi. He said that the army Jawans toiled hard to recover the body of Negi. The CM had held talks with the defence minister and army chief in this regard. He also assured that the widow of the martyr would be provided a job as per her qualification and compensation as per the rules would be given to his family. Mussoorie MLA Ganesh Joshi, Sahaspur MLA Sahdev Singh Pundir and senior armed force personnel were present on the occasion.
Father of the martyr Ratan Singh Negi, brother Avtar Singh and other relatives of the martyr were present at the funeral.
