Man caught for murdering three in Pithoragarh village
Argument among drunk men escalated into gruesome murders
The police have arrested a man accused of carrying out the triple murders of Nepali workers in a village in Pithoragarh on October 25. According to the confession of the accused, the murders were the result of an argument he had with one the victims after both got drunk.
It will be recalled that on October 26, the police had received information about a man being brutally murdered at Mad-Khadayat village in Pithoragarh.
On reaching the home, the police found a man’s body with the throat slit, eyes and face stabbed and the genitals severed. In another locked room, the police found bodies of two more men with their throats slit.
One of the men had injuries on the face and his genitals had also been cut while an attempt had been made to cut the genitals of the third body. The three were identified as Kashi Bora, Harish Bora and his brother Bir Bahadur.
The police began an elaborate investigation into the gruesome murders and learnt of Jagri Hotel in Pithoragarh frequented by Nepalis from Charma, Nachni and Munsyari. The police found that Bir Bahadur had visited this hotel with some people of whom two had gone back to Nepal while one had returned to Nachni. It was learnt that Bir had met Dhan Bahadur from his native village a few days ago which was also confirmed from CCTV footage. A taxi driver also confirmed that he had dropped the duo at Mad-Khadayat village. On tracing the location of Dhan Bahadur’s mobile phone, he was found to be near Munsyari.
When a police team reached Munsyari it was learnt that he had left for Nepal. After elaborate search the police caught Dhan waiting for a vehicle on Thal-Pithoragarh road. The bag he was carrying was found to contain washed but blood-stained trousers and slippers. He confessed to having committed the triple murders. He said that he met his village uncle Bir on October 25. Bir invited him spend the night at his brother Harish Bora’s place.
They bought liquor and meat for the night, reached the village by taxi and drank liquor while walking to the home. There they met Kashi and Harish.
While cooking the meat, they drank more together and then Kashi went out to get more.
The accused then asked his uncle where his wife was, to which he replied that she had gone to Nepal and was not reachable on the phone. He then criticised his uncle for being with a woman who frequently left him. As the argument ensued, Kashi returned with more liquor and beat Dhan.
Though the argument escalated, Bir got them to calm down after which they drank more and ate meat.
One of the drunk men started the argument again after which the accused was taken to a room upstairs by another man. Harish also reached the room to quarrel and picked up a sickle to attack Dhan, who hit him on the head with a pestle.
Hearing the noise, Kashi came to attack Dhan who hit him in the face with the pestle.
When Bir reached the scene, he began to scream and picked up the sickle. Dhan threw the pestle at him and snatching the sickle attacked him. As the trio lay injured, the accused went downstairs and drank some more.
He then went upstairs angry and assaulted the three men with a sickle and a knife. He then burnt his bloodied jacket and cap in the kitchen and finished the booze before leaving the village. The police have booked the accused and will present him in court.
