Major spike in Covid-19 contagion with 199 cases reported on Thursday
In a major spike in the contagion of the novel Coronavirus (Covid-19) in Uttarakhand, 199 cases of the disease were reported by the health department on Thursday. This is the second highest number of cases reported in a day in the state during the pandemic period. On May 29, the health department had reported 216 cases of the disease. With this spurt the number of Covid-19 affected patients surged to 3982 in Uttarakhand. Udham Singh Nagar which lately has emerged as the new hot spot of the disease reported 91 cases of the disease on the day which increased the number of patients in the district to 625.
The authorities discharged 47 patients on Thursday after their recovery which increased the number of recovered patients in the state to 2995. The recovery percentage in the state is now at 75.19 and the doubling rate in the state is 27.19. Out of total samples tested 3099 percent samples have tested positive. The spurt in the number of cases can be related to the fact that the department tested 6732 swab samples on Thursday out of them 3887 samples were tested in Udham Singh Nagar district alone. Despite a quantum jump in the number of samples tested in a day, a total of 7449 samples are still untested in different labs of the state.
Apart from 91 new patients reported on Thursday in Udham Singh Nagar district 34 cases of the disease surfaced in Nainital district on the day. In Haridwar 30 cases of the disease were reported while 27 cases surfaced in Dehradun district. After showing remarkable recovery Tehri district is again showing signs of spread of contagion. On Thursday 10 new cases were reported in Tehri while three cases each were reported in Pauri and Chamoli districts. One patient was found in Champawat district.
On the day 14 patients were discharged from Udham Singh Nagar, similarly 13 from Dehradun, eight from Nainital, five each from Tehri and Haridwar and two from Almora were discharged on Thursday.
The spike of Thursday ensured that the state now has 904 active patients of the disease. Udham Singh Nagar is at top of table in the list of Covid-19 active cases with 316 active cases of the disease. Dehradun with 200 active cases are at second position and Nainital with 175 active cases is at third spot. Haridwar has 115, Tehri 21, Pauri 20, Uttarkashi 18, Champawat 17, Pithoragarh 12, Chamoli five and Almora and Bageshwar two active cases each of Covid-19. Rudraprayag has one active case each of the disease and is at the bottom of the table of active patients.
