Maintaining sanitation is among my main priorities: Municipal Commissioner
After recently assuming charge as the municipal commissioner of Dehradun, Vinay Shankar Pandey said that maintaining the desired level of sanitation in the city is among his top priorities. Further, for better management of the areas under the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD), the 100 wards have been divided into five zones.
Talking to The Pioneer, Pandey said, “Cleanliness means clean air and safe environment. My priority is to provide such conditions in the city. My second priority in this aspect is to keep the city safe from diseases like malaria. This part of our work has remained neglected. But this time we will make a strong framework to clean stagnant water in various areas of the city and fogging will be done properly to keep our city free of such diseases.”
Elaborating on the division of wards into zones he said, “We have divided all the 100 wards into five zones with at least 20 wards each. We will establish five new zonal offices in each of these zones. Various works related to sanitation, complaints, birth and death certificate will be done from these five zonal offices. The formation of these offices is likely be completed in 15 to 20 days.”
He further informed that a system will be put in place for round the clock cleaning along roads that see maximum movement. One truck and one trolley will be deployed in such locations. “Our sanitation workers will remain in these areas and will clean it regularly. This way cleanliness in all these areas will be maintained properly,” he added.
