Liquor tragedy: Youth Cong demands suspension of excise officer
The Youth Congress has threatened to launch an agitation if the district excise officer of Dehradun is not suspended by the state administration for showing dereliction of duty which resulted in seven deaths in the illicit liquor tragedy in Dehradun. Addressing media persons at Rajiv Bhawan, the state headquarters of Congress party on Saturday, the former national secretary of Youth Congress Sangram Singh Pundeer said that a high level inquiry should be conducted in the incident. He said that the district excise officer of Dehradun should be removed immediately. He said that Youth Congress would not remain mute spectator on the issue and a march to the secretariat would be organised by it. Pundir added that if no action against guilty officials is taken then the Youth Congress would hold state-wide demonstrations.
The spokesperson of the Youth Congress, Vikas Negi said that it is unfortunate that the illicit liquor is readily available in the state and the department and government has gone on a sleeping mode. The leaders of Youth Congress said that in February this year many persons had lost their lives in illicit liquor tragedy in Haridwar district and recent tragedy in Dehradun district shows that the government has learnt no lesson from the tragedy.
