The governor Baby Rani Maurya, chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat, various ministers and leaders across the political spectrum have expressed grief at the passing away of former President of India, Pranab Mukherjee. In her condolence message, the governor said, “Pranab Mukherjee was an uncommon public leader, educationalist, economist, parliamentarian and administrator. He spent his whole live in the service of the nation. His tenure as the President of India was also unforgettable. He had considerable affection for Dehradun and Uttarakhand. He had facilitated the renovation of the president’s bodyguard estate ‘Ashiana’ in Dehradun,” she said while expressing her condolences to the bereaved family.
Conveying his condolence to the bereaved family of Bharat Ratna recipient Mukherjee, the CM said that the former president had a multi-faceted personality. He said, “He was an expert in politics, finance, law and other subjects. He left a lasting impression during his long public and political life. An able administrator, he was a leading personality of Indian politics. Having a special affection for Uttarakhand, he had also addressed the State’s Vidhan Sabha,” said Rawat.
Expressing grief at Mukherjee’s demise, Assembly speaker Premchand Agrawal said that it was an irreparable loss for society. “The country has lost a leader who always remained connected to the ground level. He was very capable and served the country in various capacities. A multifaceted personality, he was known for literary skill, journalism, gentle and cordial while reaching the top of politics. He has left an impression on the nation’s development,” said Agrawal.
The State’s Tourism and Culture minister Satpal Maharaj also expressed grief at Mukherjee’s demise. The minister said, “His demise is an irreparable loss. He always accorded importance to democratic and parliamentary values. He was also attached to Uttarakhand and visited the state many times. His address to all the members of the Vidhan Sabha on May 18, 2015 will always be remembered as that of a parliamentary educator.”
The Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Pritam Singh has expressed deep sorrow on the demise of former President Pranab Mukherjee. In a message, Singh said that Mukherjee held many positions in a long and illustrious career and played an important role in development of the country. He said that Mukherjee would be remembered for his brave decisions which he took while rising above the party politics when in office as President of the country. The PCC president said that his death has resulted in closure of a chapter in the political history of India. Former chief minister and senior Congress leader Harish Rawat also expressed deep grief at the demise of Mukherjee.
