Leaders from across party lines condoled the demise of Goa chief minister and former Defence minister Manohar Parrikar on Sunday. The Uttarakhand governor Baby Rani Maurya expressed grief at the Goa chief minister’s demise. In her condolence message, she stated that Parrikar was a popular public leader, an able administrator and dedicated public servant. Even while suffering from serious ailment, he had accorded top priority to discharging his responsibilities for public service, she added.
Chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat also expressed deep grief at the demise of Parrikar. Rawat said, “I am deeply saddened by the news of Parrikar ji’s demise. We have lost an able administrator and a popular leader of the public. My empathy towards the bereaved family members in this time of sorrow,” said the chief minister in his condolence message. Rawat further said that Parrikar was a capable politician, able administrator and a leader of the public with a clean image. His efforts during his three tenures as the chief minister of Goa and then as the Union Defence minister will always be remembered. Stating that he was a leader connected with the general public, Rawat said that his demise is an irreparable loss. He recalled, “I had also gone to meet him when he was not well. Even at that time he had given me various suggestions for boosting tourism in Uttarakhand. His demise has left a big gap in Indian politics.”
The Bharatiya Janata Party state president Ajay Bhatt said that the nation had lost a very honest person. In his condolence message Bhatt said, “Parrikar’s demise is an irreparable loss to the nation. We are in deep grief. His simplicity, affectionate behaviour, sacrifice, dedication and honesty will not be forgotten.”
Meanwhile, leaders of the opposition also expressed grief at Parrikar’s demise. Former chief minister and AICC general secretary Harish Rawat stated, “I am deeply saddened by the news of the demise of former union minister and Goa chief minister Manohar Parrikar. I pray for peace to his soul and strength to his bereaved family.” Various other Congress leaders and MLAs also expressed their condolence on the demise of Parrikar.
