In what can be termed as good news for the elderly, the Deen Dayal Upadhyaya (Coronation) hospital here has started a special geriatric ward. The Rajpur Road MLA, Khajan Das inaugurated the ten-bed ward on Wednesday.
After inspection of the ward the MLA lauded the hospital authorities for implementing the idea of serving the elderly. He said that special care has been taken in designing the ward so that every possible comfort is available to senior citizens of our society.
The Chief Medical Superintendent (CMS) of the hospital Dr L C Punetha said that the ward has two sections of five beds each for the male and female patients.
He informed that the nurses and ward boys of the geriatric ward have been trained in care of elderly. The CMS further informed that the ward has heating and cooling mechanism for the comfort of the elderly patients.
He said that special features like anti skid tiles and special handle for support in the toilet have been used in the ward. Dr Punetha said that the patients who are above the age of 60 years would be kept in the geriatric ward for special care. The 60 bed hospitals have specialist doctors of surgery, orthopaedics, medicine, radiology and skin and venereal diseases. The hospital has an OPD of about 150 to 200 patients per day and it also operates a special geriatric clinic for senior citizens.
