Kedarnath & Yamunotri shrines to get closed for winters today

The portals of the Kedarnath and Yamunotri shrines would close for the winters on Thursday. After the closure of the portals in Kedarnath temple, the palanquin carrying the Panchmukhi idol would leave from the shrine to lord’s winter abode in the Omkareshwar temple in Ukhimath. On Wednesday a large number of pilgrims including former chief minister and Haridwar MP Ramesh Pokhariyal Nishank offered prayers in the temple.

 As per the rituals associated with the process of closure of the temple for winters, the idol of Lord Kedarnath was brought in the temple premises after prayers and after which it circumambulated  the temple. The prayers were offered by the priest T Gangadhar Ling on the occasion.  The chairman of the Badrinath Kedarnath Temple Committee (BKTC) Ajendra Ajay was present on the occasion.

The joint secretary of the Kedarnath Utthan Charitable Trust and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of BKTC, Yogendra Singh said that all the preparation associated with closure of the portals have been done. He added that the arrangements for food and stay for the police personnel deployed in the security of the temple during the winters have also been made.

The media in charge of the BKTC, Harish Gaur informed that the procession of the lord would leave the temple at 8.30 am on Thursday and head towards the first stop Rampur from where it will reach the Vishwanath temple in Guptkashi on October 28 and then the Omkareshwar temple in Ukhimath on October 29.
