Badrinath to be reopened today
The portals of Kedarnath shrine were reopened to devotees amidst Vedic rituals and devotees chanting the name of the lord early on Thursday morning. A large number of devotees were present when the portals of the shrine were opened at 5:35 AM. The ritual process of opening the portals of the shrine began earlier at about 4 AM. The Rawal (chief priest) of Kedarnath, Bhimashankar Ling, temple priest Kedar Ling and others conducted the rituals for reopening of the shrine at its southern entrance. After that the Rawal, temple priest along with Badrinath Kedarnath Temple Committee vice chairman Ashok Khatri, Rudraprayag district magistrate Mangesh Ghildiyal and BKTC chief executive officer BD Singh among others entered the shrine. After elaborate rituals at the main doors of the shrine, the portals of the sanctum sanctorum were opened to the devotees at 5:35 AM. A band of the Jammu Kashmir light infantry also played tunes outside the shrine on the occasion. Enthusiastic devotees chanted ‘Har Har Mahadev’ and ‘Jai Kedar’ as multitudes queued to pray in the shrine opened to the public after remaining closed for the six months of winter.
The Uttarakhand governor Baby Rani Maurya, Haridwar MP and former chief minister Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’, Garhwal commissioner BVRC Purushottam, office bearers of the temple committee and number of government officials were also among those who paid obeisance at Kedarnath on the occasion.
Meanwhile, the ceremonial process of Tritiya Kedar- Tungnath reached Chopta on Thursday. The shrine of lord Tungnath will be reopened to the devotees at 12 PM on Friday.
Before that, the portals of Badrinath will be reopened to the devotees at 4:15 AM. On Thursday, along with the seat of Adi Shankaracharya, Uddhav and Kuber, the Rawal of Badrinath, Ishwari Prasad Namboodri, BKTC chairman Mohan Prasad Thapliyal and others reached Badrinath. The shrine has been decked up in flowers for its reopening early in the morning on Friday.
