Issue notices, act against encroaching Bangladeshi refugees: HC
Hearing on a public interest litigation against encroachment and illegal constructions by Bangladeshi refugees near a platform of the Kichha railway station, the Uttarakhand high court has directed the Udham Singh Nagar district magistrate to issue notices to them, address their submissions within a fixed time period and take legal action against the encroachers. After hearing the matter, the division bench of justice Sudhanshu Dhulia and justice Alok Kumar Verma disposed of the PIL.
According to the case details, Rudrapur resident Kameshwar Sahi had filed the PIL stating that Bangladeshi refugees had encroached near platform number two of the Kichha railway station. The refugees had built shanties and even pucca homes in the area, the petitioner had stated. The site where the encroachment and illegal constructions had taken place is on the path leading to platform number two of the railway station. Due to the encroachment, this path is on the verge of being blocked. The petitioner stated that he had complained about this matter to the administration and the railways on many occasions. However, no action had been taken by the authorities concerned due to which he had to file the PIL.
