Expressing concern on the huge backlog of samples in different labs of the state, the Uttarakhand Congress has demanded the health department should increase the sample testing rate in the state. On Wednesday a delegation of Congress party met the Director General (DG) of state health services, Dr Amita Upreti. The delegation was led by the Vice President of Uttarakhand Congress Surya Kant Dhasmana. The Congress leader told the DG that the backlog of untested samples should be finished with an increased number of tests. He said that the free test facility should be provided at private test labs and the government should reserve ICU beds in the private hospitals for Covid-19 patients. Dhasmana told the DG that the number of patients in the state on May 15 was below 100 in Uttarakhand. He asked the reasons for spurt in the number of cases in the state. He also said that the health department has failed to start testing labs in every district of the state. The DG told Dhasmana that the number of patients in the state increased after the return of migrants. She said that the department is trying its best to increase the testing rate and number of labs in the state. The DG assured the delegation that the department would take decisions regarding reserving ICU beds in private hospitals on the basis of situation. She claimed that the state health department is doing its best to control the contagion and would continue to do so.
The delegation included Congress party spokesperson Garima Dassauni, state secretary Parinita Badoni, Mahesh Joshi, Rajesh Chamoli and others.
