How to cycle for change in Doon, asks DSCL

Taking up the Government of India’s Cycles 4 Change challenge, Dehradun Smart City Limited (DSCL) has sought suggestions from the citizens regarding cycling in Dehradun. The challenge was launched by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs to raise awareness on cycling in society and keep the people healthy by encouraging cycling. The DSCL is also participating in this challenge.

The officials state that even amidst the Covid-19 pandemic, cycling is a safe and healthful means of transport which is beneficial for the environment and the health of the person cycling. As part of the challenge, a project proposal is to be drafted for encouraging cycling in the city. This proposal will have to be sent to the ministry where it will be evaluated and by October a total of 11 cities will be chosen for implementation of the project. The chosen cities will receive Rs one crore grant and technical assistance.

The DSCL chief executive officer Ashish Kumar Srivastava said that cycling is a better alternative especially to keep the environment clean and the citizens healthy. Stating that the DSCL will be aiming to win this challenge, he said that the cooperation of Doon residents is needed for this purpose. The citizens are requested to fill up a form and provide their suggestions and share their thoughts with DSCL on this subject. Considering these, a proposal drafted according to the requirements of the locals will be drafted and submitted to the ministry, he added. The DSCL is requesting the locals to click their photograph while cycling and share their cycling experience on DSCL’s social media. The people are also requested to fill the Google form issued by the Government of India. People should click on the link https://smartnet.niua.org/indiacyclechallenge/content/support-your-city  to fill the feedback form. The link for this form is also available on the DSCL website.
